Identity Theft

Limit Public Computer Use to Protect Yourself from Identity Theft

Don’t use public access computers if you can help it. When you do, change your password within 24 hours. You may be on vacation and you think you will drop into an internet café to check your email and the performance of your stock brokerage account. Don’t do it. You are vulnerable to becoming a victim of identity theft. There are too many opportunities for things to go very badly with the use of that computer. Plan ahead and bring a powerful cellphone or perhaps an I-pad to check out the things that you need to. When on vacation think of those old cowboy movies that used to be on the television of the cowboys riding through the desert and vultures circling around above them, waiting for that opportunity to strike. There are identity thieves circling around airports, vacation spots and hotels waiting to pounce.
